Ontario Leaves Many Individuals With Disabilities Financially Trapped

Many reports have proved that the Ontario system has failed individuals with disabilities, leaving many of them trapped in poverty. The victims of this scenario are mostly adults that live with developmental disabilities,

As each province has their own disability benefits programs, Ontario’s program may be slightly difficult for an individual to live off of. A single adult on disability benefits will receive roughly $1128 a month. This number may sound decent, but once you consider the actual living costs, the monthly living allowance will only last so much.

In Ontario, the average cost of rent for a bachelor apartment is $800-$900. The remains of the monthly living allowance will barely cover food, transportation, telephone, clothing, and other expenses.

Overall, it is important for the Ontario government to recognize the issues within this monthly allowance and how this may result for individuals becoming trapped in poverty.
