Maysoon Zayid is an American actress and Comedian that lives with Cerebral Palsy. Unlike other disabilities, Cerebral Palsy is only caused through accidents. Maysoon was affected by CP during her birth when the procedure had been done incorrectly.
Regardless of her disability, Zayid lives a passionate life as an Actress and Comedian where she discusses her experiences with CP and the interesting things that come with it.
In 2014, Zayid appeared on TED Talk and used this opportunity to discuss the stigma against disability in a humorous but also in a serious approach. She did an excellent job at showing that her disability never stood in the way of her happiness and dreams, but that her “crooked journey” had brought her to many wonderful places and opportunities. She acted with Adam Sandler, talked at many shows, and also founded her own charity called “Maysoon’s kids”, but the most memorable opportunity for her was the day she was able to perform an individual she had always looked up to, Muhammad Ali.
Today she uses her comedic platform to discuss the stigma against disability and looks for every chance to inspire another individual, whether they share a similar path or not.
